Remembering the Members We Lost at CFB Wainwright

October 19, 2026 news-nouvelles

Canada is mourning the four Canadian Armed Forces members who lost their lives in the fire at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright in Alberta. Dozens more were injured, many seriously.

The soldiers, from the 3rd Battalion of Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry and the Army Reserve, were training for overseas deployment when a fast-moving grass fire swept across the training grounds.

They served our country, and we will remember them.

United in Grief in the House of Commons

When the House returned, Members of Parliament from every party stood together for a moment of silence to honour those we lost and those still recovering. Tragedies like this are felt in every corner of the country, and in that moment, the House spoke with one voice.

Signing the Book of Condolences

I also signed the Book of Condolences on behalf of the people of London West, to share our community’s sympathy with the families, friends and fellow members of the fallen.

My heart is with their loved ones, and I am praying for the injured as they recover. Thank you to the first responders, medical teams and the people of Wainwright who rushed to help.

To the women and men of the Canadian Armed Forces, we stand with you in this loss, today and always.

We will remember them.
