Supporting the Manufacturers Who Keep London Working
I attended Manufacturing Matters 2026 as a guest of the London Economic Development Corporation (LEDC). Led by LEDC for more than 20 years and presented with the London Region Manufacturing Council, it is the largest manufacturing event in Southwestern Ontario, and this year’s conference reached full capacity.
More than 40,000 people work in manufacturing across the London region. Events like this are a valuable chance to hear directly from the business leaders and workers who drive our local economy.
Building Resilience Through Trade Diversification
This year’s theme was trade diversification, a priority that matters for every manufacturer in our region. Sessions covered tariff responses and funding opportunities, cybersecurity, workforce recruitment, accessing the mining supply chain, and how local businesses can become suppliers to the defence sector.
The keynote was delivered by Heather Damaren, Director of Manufacturing for Canada Operations at General Dynamics Land Systems–Canada. GDLS-Canada builds Light Armoured Vehicles here in London for the Canadian Armed Forces and allies around the world.
A Strong Local Sector
The exhibitor showcase brought together nearly 100 local manufacturers, service providers, and partners, including Fanshawe College and Western University. It was a clear reminder of the depth of skill and innovation we have in London.
Our government is working to protect Canadian jobs, open new markets, and support Canadian industry through a challenging period of global trade. Our manufacturers are central to that work, and I will keep listening to them as we build a stronger economy at home.
Made in London. Built for the world.
